Getting Help From Your Employer or Builder? Maryland May Match It.
Some Maryland employers, home builders and local programs offer their own homebuyer assistance.
What many buyers do not know is that the state may add more money on top.
It is called Maryland Partner Match down payment assistance, and it can add up to $2,500 to the help you already have.

What Is Partner Match?
Partner Match is a Maryland Mortgage Program feature. If you receive down payment assistance from one or more MMP-approved Partners, the state matches it with up to $2,500 in additional assistance.
According to the MMP Partner Match page, approved Partners include:
- Partner employers
- Home builders and developers
- Community and local government partners
Which Loans Work With Partner Match?
Partner Match is available with two MMP products:
- 1st Time Advantage 6000 for first-time buyers
- Flex 6000 for first-time or repeat buyers
Both include a $6,000 0% deferred loan for down payment and closing costs.
How the Numbers Can Stack Up
Here is a simple example:
- $6,000 from 1st Time Advantage 6000
- $2,500 from an approved employer partner
- $2,500 Partner Match from the state
- Total: $11,000 toward down payment and closing costs
Paired with an FHA loan on a $250,000 home in Hagerstown or Glen Burnie, that can cover the full 3.5% down payment of $8,750, with some left for closing costs.
How Partner Match Is Repaid
The match is a no-interest, deferred loan from the state. There are no monthly payments. It is repaid when the first mortgage is fully paid off, such as when you sell or refinance.
What Partner Match Does Not Combine With
Some MMP programs cannot be paired with Partner Match, including:
- The Montgomery Homeownership Program
- First Homes for First Responders and Teachers
If you qualify for more than one option, compare the totals before choosing. A bigger single program can sometimes beat a smaller stacked one.
How to Find a Partner
- Ask your HR department if your employer is an MMP Partner
- Ask builders of new homes about MMP-eligible incentives
- Check local county or city housing programs
- Search the MMP partner listings, or ask an MMP-approved lender
